William D. McGhee, Sr.  (Bill) passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Monday, December 19, 2022.  He was rejoined with the love of his life, his wife Gwen Ann McGhee who preceded him in death after 60 years of marriage.

He joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Following his service to the country, he began working for DuPont for the next 38 years.  Starting out working swing shifts in the mill, he worked his way up to head cost accountant, and auditor and overseer of accounting of all the southeast DuPont plants.

As a car enthusiast, he enjoyed his post retirement years plying the car trade.

Saved at the age of 17, he and his wife were active in their church at Red Bank Baptist. He had a lifelong love of Southern Gospel Music.

One of 5 siblings, he is survived by one sister, Mary McGhee Peoples (95). He is survived also by 3 children, Sonja M. Rich (Jack), William D. McGhee, Jr. (Angela), and Brian McGhee (Karen), 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors and Rev. Bill Harvey officiating.

There will be no public visitation.
