Wanda M. Thurman

Wanda M. Thurman, age 94, of Chattanooga, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Wanda grew up in Indiana and was a big fan of Notre Dame football and Indiana Hoosier basketball. She attended nursing school in Ohio, but met the love of her life, Charlie Thurman, and moved South to begin their journey. Wanda spent many years working at Provident Life Insurance, where she was highly regarded for her strong work ethic, sharp mind, and kind disposition. Later, she brought those same exceptional organizational skills to her family life, serving faithfully as the secretary and bookkeeper for the family business of Roto Rooter and Thurman Sewer Service.

A woman of deep, unwavering faith, Wanda loved the Lord with all her heart and lived her life as a beautiful reflection of His grace. She was a dedicated and active member of Community Baptist Church, where she found great joy in fellowship, worship, and serving her community. She had a quiet but witty personality. She loved to go for a Sunday drive and loved a visit from her Grand dogs. She could not wait to give them a treat.

Beyond her professional dedication, Wanda’s absolute favorite place to express her love was in the kitchen. She truly loved to cook and was extraordinarily good at it. Whether preparing a simple weeknight meal or a grand holiday feast, her food brought people together, creating cherished memories and full hearts for everyone fortunate enough to sit at her table. Her Christmas treats goodie trays were always in high demand.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Thurman.

She is survived by her devoted son, Randy Thurman, and her loving daughter-in-law, Tina Thurman, who will forever carry her legacy of love, faith, and warmth in their hearts. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your favorite local animal charity or rescue.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Friday, September 4, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Hamilton Funeral Home, located at 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343. A funeral service celebrating her life and faith will follow at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian Maxwell officiating.
