Phillip Barta Gardner, 81, of Ringgold, GA, died while a resident at Elmcroft of Shallowford in Chattanooga, TN.  He was under the loving care of Hearth Hospice when he passed.

He was preceded in death by:  Reverend Oscar E. Gardner, grandfather; Sarah H. Gardner, grandmother; Joseph E. Gardner, Sr., father; Mabel Dale Gardner, mother; and Joseph E. Gardner, Jr., brother.

Phil is survived by:  Joyce T. Gardner, sister-in-law; Lucinda D. Gardner, niece; Scott T. Gardner, nephew; John M. Gardner, nephew and his wife, Teresa S. Gardner.  He is survived by grandnieces and nephews:  Joseph Wichmann, Lucy Wichmann, Theo Wichmann, Harrison Gardner, and Charlotte Gardner.

Phil is also survived by his stepdaughter, Debbie Cook; step-grandson, Trey Cook; and step-great-grandsons Jude, Jack, and James Cook.

Phil worked as a Master Draftsman with Combustion Engineering (ABB, Alstom) for over four decades.  He was a lifetime member of the Chattanooga Chess Club.  Phil was a very kind and loving man, and was beloved by all.

End of life services are being provided by Hamilton Funeral Home in Chattanooga, TN.  The family will be honoring his life at a time and location to be announced at a later date.
