Obituary

O.C. Adcock, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the home of his daughter in Ooltewah, TN, surrounded by loving family.

He was born in 1928 in Athens, AL. the last of 14 children of James Mitchell Adcock and Martha Hackney Turner Adcock. O.C. joined The Alabama State Guard at age 15 and at 18 years old he joined The U.S. ARMY, the Occupation Forces Serving in Livorno, Italy during WWII.

He then moved to Chattanooga, TN. Working at American Lava and then as a boiler tech with Chattanooga Gas.  He retired after 40 years of employment.

During that time. He was active in organizing his union, UWUA LOCAL 461, serving as President for 27 years and Vice President for 2 years. After moving to Ringgold, GA. He served on The City Council for 12 years and 2 years as Vice Mayor. O.C. was a member of Mtn. Creek Church of Christ.

Left to honor his loving memories are his wife of 54 years, Ann Reed Adcock of Ringgold and daughter Sue Adcock of Ooltewah, TN. Survivors also are grandchildren, Cranston Gass, II, Cabot Gass and Charlee Anne Gass.

O.C. enjoyed many hobbies that kept him busy for most of his 93 years.  He remained active until just recently and enjoyed hunting, fishing & the road trips in his restored 1952 Chevy Bel Air, 2 door hardtop.  Many trips were taken & he was always excited to meet new folks at the cruise ins & car shows, as well as reminisce with old friends.  He & Ann were quick to include others to come along.

He loved deeply his large family, including all ages of nieces & nephews. He was especially proud of the grandchildren, Cranston, Cabot & Charlee Anne, always ready to go to their athletic activities, motor cross, rodeos or school programs.  O.C. was a devoted dad to Suzi.  Their bond was solid.

If you knew O.C., you knew he never met a stranger and was rarely at a loss for words.  Spend a few minutes with, him you would learn something!  Spend 9 hours on a road trip, you could learn everything!!  He could spin a yarn that would leave you wondering " is that really a true story?" With countless tales to share he spoke as though he experienced them just yesterday.  He painted word pictures.  I could visualize & recreate his time as a medic in the Army in Italy.  He was a multifaceted Gem & such an important part of all our families lives.  He seemed to enjoy the company of all ages.  LOVED by many, MISSED by all!
