Marcia Crowe
Black
May 26, 1947 — Mar 4, 2026
Hendersonville
Marcia Crowe Black, 78, passed away at her home in Hendersonville, TN, Wednesday, March 4, 2026 surrounded by her family.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who delighted in her family and close circle of friends. She was a devout Christian and active member of the Hendersonville Church of Christ. She will be remembered for her loving nature, her thoughtfulness, kindness and the warm way she welcomed so many friends. She loved well and was loved by many.
Born in Rockwood, TN, to the late Virgil Boyd and Una Ray Crowe, May 26, 1947, Marcia spent most of her years in Hamilton County. She was a graduate of Red Bank High School ('65), and Tennessee Tech ('69) where she earned a B.S. in Secondary Education and was a member of the Pi Omega Sorority. She also attended the University of Chattanooga and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. Marcia spent almost 30 yrs as an English teacher in Hamilton County Schools including at Red Bank Jr. High and Brown Middle School.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Chester V. Black, Jr.; children, Jim (Celeste) Black, and Debbie (Nick) Rose; grandchildren, Andy (Leah) Black, David Black; Riley (Jude) Rose Charlton, Michael (Callie Eldridge, fiancée) Black, Reagan Rose, Ryan Rose, and Daniel Black; also by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bettye Jo Crowe (Robert) Smith.
Marcia enjoyed teaching and treasured the relationships she developed with her students and fellow teachers. She took great pride in telling people that she was a "middle school English teacher" and wore the badge with honor. It always delighted her to run into former students and hear about their families and later careers. Her fellow teachers looked up to her as a mentor and her students learned more than they wanted to know about English.
Marcia's great love and passion in life was for her children and grandchildren and her greatest title was that of "Mom" and "Grammy." She was the best "Mom" anyone could ask for, always there to listen, to offer words of wisdom, and to demonstrate what God's unconditional love looks like. She also made it her mission to love on, support, and cheer on her grandkids, her "Munchkins," every chance she got. From basketball and football games, soccer matches to cross country meets, graduations, and weddings, she wanted to be there. Everyone she met got to hear all about each one of them, their spouses, sports, activities, schools, and careers. She never missed an opportunity to brag on each one!
Marcia will be greatly missed by her family, but she rests in the assurance of the resurrection in heaven through faith in Christ.
