On Sunday, September 13, 2020, Karen Chelton went home to be with the Lord.

Karen was born on August 31, 1941 in Chattanooga, TN to Harry and Margaret Hicks. She attended OLPH School and Notre Dame High School. She was a devoted Catholic and longtime member of OLPH Catholic Church then later St. Stephen Catholic Church. Karen raised her son, Andy in Chattanooga and she recently moved to Nashville to be closer to him, her daughter-in-law, Sarah and the granddaughter that was the center of her life, Halle.  Karen or "G.G." as little Halle called her, were the best of friends and rambunctious playmates.

Karen was a volunteer and lifelong supporter of St Jude Children's Hospital. She loved animals and never missed a chance to take care of a dog or cat that needed a home. Many of these animals became her devoted pets over the years.  Karen was a passionate Georgia Bulldogs football fan.  She loved people and had a smile that warmed a room. Karen made friends anywhere she went. A conversation with a complete stranger to compliment them and share a laugh was commonplace. Her love was rare and she was such a warm and joyful soul. Those that called her a friend knew how deeply she loved.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Barbara Fortson and Peggy Dockery.

She is survived by her son, Andy, daughter-in-law, Sarah, granddaughter, Halle and her brother, Harry Hicks.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1 Mount Olivet Dr.  Chattanooga, TN 37412 at 11 o'clock a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
