Obituary

James McDaniel, aged 90, passed away on November 13 th in Chattanooga.

Jim was born on January 14, 1932 in Chattanooga and lived there most of his life. He served in the US Army beginning in 1950. Some of his favorite memories are of his time serving in Europe during the early 1950s as a Military Intelligence Officer. He attended UT Knoxville and retired in 1999 as manager of the Chattanooga Federal Employees Credit Union.

If you knew Jim, you knew he loved cars. Not just any old car---a sports car. If it was fast, good; if it was a convertible, even better. A perfect day would be dinner after church at his parents' house, then a visit to the local car dealerships (yes, more than one—you have to see what is out there). He was always dreaming about the next trade. Jim was also an avid gardener. Roses were a specialty, but he was adept at growing almost anything that was green or bloomed. He loved many things—travel, talking on the phone and getting the scoop, adventures with friends, and working out in the gym, but he was truly the best at one thing—being a father. It couldn't be easy to be the father of a spirited girl, but his kind nature and great sense of humor made him perfect for the job. He hosted his daughter, Angela, and her friends at his house on weekends, providing junk food and access to HBO; needless to say, he was popular! He always asked about the girls and wanted to see pictures of everyone and hear where their lives had taken them. He was an even better grandfather. Cooper and Chloe were lucky to have a grandfather who was always there for them. He never missed a birthday or anniversary. Kind and loving until the end; he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved parents Bessie and Herbert McDaniel, sisters, Virginia Hamilton, Martha McDaniel, and Peggy Muse, and his brother Ray McDaniel.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Angela and Chris Chambers, grandchildren Cooper and Chloe, brother and sister-in-law Fred and Barbara McDaniel, and nieces and nephews.
