Obituary

James Franklin Groves, 96, lived a long, good life. He passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday night at around 11:30 at Martin-Boyd Christian Home where he resided.  James was born on November 9, 1925, in Lyon County Kentucky. He was the 3rd of 7 children of Herman and Viola Groves. James was a loving husband of 69 years, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He loved to tell stories of growing up, military and work experiences. When telling a story, he always had in mind to encourage the listener. He loved GOD, was a true caregiver, and loved his family. He was looking forward to going home to be with the LORD, and his beloved wife.

He served in the Navy in his youth, was a lock operator locking boats through dams, worked in TVA steam plants, and in 1960 switched to the nuclear power production field because he was becoming increasingly concerned about the large quantities of fuel our nation was already gobbling up. He was an avid golfer, a private aircraft owner for 30 years and loved flying his planes. He was always helping folks with their computers. He loved watching his grandsons play ball and could be found at the ballfield often, then later at the motor cross tracks watching them race. He was the family historian who loved learning more about his family. Always kind and loving. He also loved serving in the LORD's church. His friends and the staff at Martin-Boyd Christian Home say that he was always a gentleman, he would share his Bible studies with them, and they could see how much he loved the LORD. Some of the staff shared that one of his last evenings he took a joy ride up and down the halls on his rolling desk chair! Although we are joyful, he is already missed!

James was a strong believer that most people will work if we, the managers, will provide them guidance on what to do, a place, tools, and material to do it with. He felt the best time to teach is when the student really wants to learn and the best way to increase production is to find a way to get the people motivated! He said Nehemiah is a good example-He assimilated the facts, communicated the information, accepted the responsibility, organized the workforce, motivated the workers, provided the supervision, and the wall around Jerusalem was rebuilt in record time "for the people had a mind to work"!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Viola (Parrent) Groves, son, Stephen Groves, two brothers, Fredrick and Edward Groves, four sisters, Becky Dunning, Bernice Klemenz, Dorothy Robertson and Ann Choate.

James is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Roy) Ramsey, their sons, Brent (Heidi) Ramsey and Nathan (Monica) Ramsey their children, Tatum and Tyson, his daughter, Brenda (Bob) Queenan, their children, Sammi and Tommy, great-grandchildren, Anna (Clayton) Reasoner, Nina (Matt) Smith, Will, Ben, Emma, and Bubby Ramsey, great-great grandchildren, Micaiah Reasoner and Madi Smith.
