Dorothy L. Smith, 83, of Soddy Daisy, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

With deepest sorrow, we share with  you the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother and friend, Dorothy Lary Smith(Dot) and also known as Nanny she was carried gently in Jesus' arms; her last and heavenly home. We celebrate her overwhelming joy as she now worships God in his glorious presence.

Mom is now reunited with our dad Edwin N Smith, several brothers and sisters and many family and friends. She was born on September 14,1938 to parents Otis and Renvie Morrison in Huntsville, Alabama.

Dorothy is survived by her three sons, James (Melody) Smith, Timothy(Annette) Smith, and Darrell Smith, her Grandchildren Brian(Danielle) Smith, Abbie(Justin) Raines,  Blake(Stephanie) Smith her great grandchildren, Dylan,Alexis,Brooke,Hayden,Duke, Gunnar,Bristol, Ezekiel.

To friends and neighbors , Dot was a very soft spoken and courteous friend. To her family, Nanny was a fighter and had been a fighter her whole life. After two brain, hip surgeries, and lung cancer. Everything that was thrown her way, she fought and showed those close to her that she was ALWAYS ready for the fight.

After all the challenges in her life. Dot taught her grandchildren and great grandchildren the importance of being strong, patient, and considerate and how to win at Solitaire also how to cook. She loved to read in her spare time and play Bingo. Bingo was a huge part of her life she loved playing with her sisters and many close friends.

Retired from driving a school bus for Orange Grove in 1999.  She loved those children dearly.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Don Kelly officiating.

Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. till 10:30 a.m.  at the Hamilton Funeral Home .
