Dorothy Humble Welch Mustin died Tuesday in Ascension (Alexian) Health Care at the age of 92.

Born in Valley Head, AL, she was the oldest of eight children born to John Clinton and Laura Humble. A 1944 graduate of Chattanooga's Central High School, she was a proud member of the school's basketball team.

Dorothy "Dot" and Warren Welch (deceased) moved to Southern California in the early 1950's where she worked for Lockheed Corporation as a fabricator/riveter. Later as a single mother raising four children she worked for Safeway Foods as a meat packer.

She is survived by Nathan Warren Welch Jr. (Estela); Robert Terry Welch (Diane) and Dr. Larry Gene Welch (Jane); 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, J C Mustin, daughter, Linda Louise Forbis Shiosaki and daughters in law Janiece Welch and Carmen Welch.

Dorothy was a devoted wife to J C Mustin for 47 years. She was respected for her forthright and honest manner by those who knew her. She taught her children by example to be hardworking, resilient, and resourceful. She loved to travel and to share stories of adventures she experienced in life.

In 1968 Dorothy and JC moved to Signal Mountain and became members of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the Joy Bible Sunday School Class and the sanctuary choir.

The family would like to thank those at Alexian Assisted Living who cared for Dorothy during the last several years.
