Obituary

Donald Earl King, 93, of Harrison Tennessee passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

Born on November 17, 1928 in Harriman, TN to Don Carlos King and Ellen "Ella" Isabella Curran King, Donald had 4 half-sisters and 3 half-brothers and was the youngest child. The family relocated to Chattanooga early in his life and lived in East Chattanooga.  Donald was a graduate of Chattanooga Central High School and worked in his youth for Doc Bacon delivering pharmacy and goods to neighboring homes. At a young age he became interested in mechanics and electronics and worked as a mechanic in his teen years for Colonial Bakery to take care of his mother after his father passed away when he was 15. Over the course of his younger years he worked for WDEF at night while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Chattanooga now known as UTC.  Donald served the City of Chattanooga for 21 years as an electrical engineer. His love of cars and motorcycles was a lifelong interest and he spent many hours with his best friend Robert Hancock working on cars at his garage in East Chattanooga or tinkering in his own garage at home with woodworking and restoring old radios.  He was always the source of knowledge and service for his family.  Donald loved Jesus and his church congregation at Cornerstone Baptist where he attended faithfully until just recently when health impeded his ability.  Always a quiet man, Donald was always the very essence of a respectful and a kind spirit toward others and solid resolve for the right thing to do. Approaching 60 years of marriage with his wife Bobbie, he built a family which was his most treasured gift. There was never a day that passed that they didn't affirm their love for each other and certainly he knew that he was cherished as he was taken care of through the last years.  Many patient and loving hours were spent sitting on the floor at play and talking about how things work with both his daughter Sally and his two grandsons Jacob and Braden.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Don Carlos and Ellen Isabella King, and his 7 half-brother and sisters.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie Jean (Rowell), Chattanooga, only daughter Sally Jean Hays (Keith), Chattanooga, and two grandsons Jacob Tanner Bush (Chelsea) Cleveland TN., Braden Patrick Bush (fiancé Christine Watkins) Chattanooga. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
