Obituary

David "Daisy" Patrick McKenna, 63, passed away on Friday, July 23rd, 2021, surrounded by family and loved ones.

David was born in Charleston, West Virginia on June 6th, 1958, to John "Jack" James McKenna and Eloise Hardin McKenna. He is the youngest of three children and is survived by his sister, Mary McKenna Hertel, and brother, Tom McKenna.

David met his wife of 39 years, Susan "Suzy" Davidson McKenna, when the two were teenagers. They began dating when he was 17 and she was 15, and married on May 15th, 1982. Together they have one daughter, Brittney McKenna, and one daughter-in-law, Mary Connelly.

The other love of David's life was golf. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in 1976, he attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on a golf scholarship, graduating in 1981. He continued to play avidly after college — winning several tournaments and shooting an amazing 11 holes-in-one — and eventually served several years as the assistant golf coach at UTC. He devoted much of his professional life to working in residential construction and spent his final years working for Dexter White Construction.

David had many interests beyond golf, including listening to music (especially Elton John), exploring thrift stores, going to baseball games and playing with his beloved dog, Zoe. He leaves behind dozens of friends from all walks of life, all of whom he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by parents Jack and Eloise; father-in-law Jackie Davidson; and sister-in-law Ginger Davidson. He is survived by wife Suzy; daughter Brittney and daughter-in-law Mary; sister Mary and brother Tom (Andrea); mother-in-law Betty Sue Davidson; brother-in-law Eddie Davidson (Dale); nephew Blake Davidson (Cailyn); nieces Alex Collier (Reggie Jones), Carrie Hertel Phillips (Michael), Sam Hertel, Nicole Davidson (Justus McMillan), Olivia McKenna, Ana McKenna and great-niece Lily Davidson.
