Carolyn Parman
On June 27, 2022, Jesus called Carolyn home. She was born in East Chicago, Indiana on November 3, 1946, graduated from Morton H.S. in 1964, from Taylor University in 1968, and Indiana University in 1973.
As Taylor freshmen Carolyn and Bill met in 1965. They were married in August of 1968. They made their first home in Lowell, IN, where Carolyn taught second grade for two years. She and Bill moved to Fort Wayne, IN in 1970 where Carolyn continued to teach second grade until 1976 when Ray was born. At this time Carolyn chose to be a full-time mother. In 1979 Kim was born. Once Ray and Kim were in school Carolyn returned to the classroom, only this time as a teacher assistant and in the same school where Ray and Kim attended. Carolyn's love for children led her to head up the nursery in the church where she, Bill and children attended. Carolyn continued as a teacher assistant for 19 years until she and Bill moved to Chattanooga in 2004. As a member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church, Carolyn continued her work with children by assisting in the church nursery.
By 2015 Carolyn and Bill had five grandchildren, to whom Carolyn devoted her attention. She always had a "knack" with children, knowing just the right things to do both when they were "good" and when they were "bad." She was a natural born mother and teacher. Not only could she manage children, she could manage Bill, too. All of her grandchildren lovingly and respectfully referred to her as "Mimi."
Carolyn was a kind, gracious, selfless, loving, good humored, loyal wife, mother, and friend. When she received money for a gift, more often then not she spent it on her children, grandchildren, or Bill. Carolyn willingly cared for Bill's mother through the recovery of two broken hip surgeries. When Bill was working, he would sometimes come home to find two shirts that Carolyn would have purchased for him laying on the bed. Carolyn would tell him to check them out and if he didn't like them, she would take them back. Knowing Bill as she did, she rarely had to return the shirts.
Carolyn was and outstanding homemaker. She knew how to make a house into a home. Her children always looked forward to her holiday meals and she always had their favorite dishes ready for them. Our house was always clean and neat. Kim joked, "Heaven is probably cleaner now that mom is there."
We will deeply miss Carolyn. She was a supreme blessing to each one in her family and her friends. So, it is with joy that we celebrate her life, knowing that she is in heaven with no more suffering and reunited with family and friends who have gone before her. And, it is with hope that we look forward to reuniting with her one day.
