Obituary

Byron Floyd (B.F.) Barker, 91, of Signal Mt., TN passed away on December 26, 2022 following a battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Chattanooga, TN, to the late Ellis and Mina Hudson Barker.

B.F. attended Central High School. Upon graduating, he married Norma Jean Johnson of Signal Mountain. Shortly thereafter, he was employed at DuPont as a pipefitter and retired after 35 years. He was affectionately nicknamed "Hunky" by his co-workers. He also served in the National Guard. B.F. and his wife were faithful members of Mount Carmel Baptist Church on Signal Mountain. They loved to travel and while raising their children they enjoyed many family trips to various parts of the US. Later, they joined the Dixie Daisies Square Dance Club where they made many friends and traveled together in their campers to several national conventions across the country. He also enjoyed many hikes in the local mountains with his good friend, Judson Everton. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was a very compassionate, giving person. More than any other accomplishment, he was a loving father and grandfather who provided well for his family and cherished his time spent with them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years and grandson Joshua David West.

B.F. is survived by his children; David Barker (Jan) of Signal Mt., Dawn Phillips (Charles) of Signal Mt., and Steve Barker (Sherri) of Signal Mt., grandchildren; Daniel Barker of Chattanooga, John Barker (Tammie) of Signal Mt., Betsy Axente (Marian) of Atlanta, GA, Alana Zoanni of Chattanooga, Thomas Barker of Atlanta, GA, and Michael Barker of Chattanooga; sister, Mava Allen of Dunlap; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
